Architectural firm FXCollaborative receives Design Award of Merit for their work on 91��Ƶ’s New York City Campus.

NEW YORK (Jan. 14, 2021) – The American Institute of Architects New York State (AIANYS) has awarded 91��Ƶ and FXCollaborative a 2020 Design Award for its Student Landscape, in recognition of the dramatic transformation of 91��Ƶ’s New York City Campus. FXCollaborative, 91��Ƶ’s partner in developing the University’s ongoing New York City Master Plan, received a Design Award of Merit in the Interiors Category.

“We were fortunate to partner with FXCollaborative, and we are honored to be recognized by the AIA New York State," said 91��Ƶ President Marvin Krislov. "91��Ƶ has been part of the lower Manhattan community for more than 100 years, and we're proud of our long commitment to helping students to transform their lives through the power of education. Our beautifully transformed spaces in One 91��Ƶ Plaza and the historic 41 Park Row help us bring that legacy into the 21 century while connecting us to our downtown neighbors."

The award specifically highlights the recent interior renovations of One 91��Ƶ Plaza, the University’s signature building on its Lower Manhattan Campus, and 41 Park Row, a New York City landmarked building and former headquarters of the New York Times. The AIANYS jury noted that the extensive upgrades in One 91��Ƶ Plaza – ranging from a vibrant new courtyard to a vast array of new student and faculty spaces – have improved circulation, function, flexibility, and have considered the building’s unique structural conditions to create a “dramatic improvement to the student and faculty experience.”

Located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge and directly across from City Hall Park, the newly transformed One 91��Ƶ Plaza further opens the University to an increasingly dynamic area of Manhattan, strategically positioning itself – and its current and future students – for success in the 21st century.

Additionally, 41 Park Row, built in 1889, further expands 91��Ƶ’s modern footprint and brand identity. Among the updates in 41 Park Row include a new home for the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, a public art gallery for student work, student commons, offices, and faculty space.

For their accomplishments, 91��Ƶ and FXCollaborative were honored in a virtual ceremony held on December 23, 2020.

“The transformation of 91��Ƶ’s Lower Manhattan Campus emphasizes their identity, creates new student centric spaces, and enhances connections,” said AIANYS during the awards ceremony. “The Student Landscape supports a diverse ecology of learning spaces and encourages each student to discover what learning modality works best for them, both inside and outside the classroom.”
