Biography

Jean Marie Covino, DHSc, MPA, PA-C, is a clinical professor and chair and program director of the 91ÊÓÆµâ€“Lenox Hill Hospital Physician Assistant Program in New York City. She has been a member of the 91ÊÓÆµ faculty since 2007 and has held progressive leadership roles in curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and PA education.

A physician assistant with more than 40 years of experience in clinical practice and education, Dr. Covino has an extensive background in family medicine, urgent care, infectious diseases, and women’s health and continues to practice clinically while serving in academic leadership.

She is an accomplished educator, researcher, author, and national contributor to the PA profession, with numerous peer-reviewed publications, textbook contributions, and professional presentations, as well as service as a journal reviewer, national board examination item writer, and contributor to PAEA assessment initiatives. Her scholarly interests include PA student success and PANCE performance, primary care, health promotion and disease prevention, and emerging pharmacologic therapies.

Her contributions to education have been recognized with honors including the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching, induction into the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for Physician Assistants, and the 2024 NYSSPA Education Research Poster Award.
