Faculty Bio

L Morgan Lee is an award-winning actress, emerging director, published writer, and educator. She received a Tony Award® nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her standout turn in the Pulitzer Prize–winning A STRANGE LOOP on Broadway—making history as the first openly trans actor to be nominated for a Tony Award®. Her performance also earned her an Obie Award, along with Drama League and Lucille Lortel Award nominations.

In addition to her stage work, Lee's studio credits include The Sugar Maple Series (Osiris Media) and Drama: An Aural Experience (AKS Immersive), as well as recordings with Ghostlight Records, Broadway Records, and Sh-K-Boom Records, numerous audiobooks, and the Grammy-nominated A Strange Loop original cast album.

Her writing has been featured in Playwrights Horizons’ ALMANAC (Vol. 03), WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE BRIGHT AGAIN, and MUSICAL THEATRE TODAY (Vol. 2). Her short play THE LEARNING CURVE was showcased in the BTB Theatre Festival Finale: BLISS at The Public Theater and is published by Broadway Licensing. She is a recipient of the Mark O’Donnell Prize and a 2024 Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award.

In October 2025, she further broke new ground by directing a star-studded benefit concert of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE at Carnegie Hall — a milestone that may place her among the first openly trans artists to direct a major event at the iconic venue.
