Biography

Adjunct Professor Maria Profeta is currently an Assistant District Attorney at the New York County (Manhattan) District Attorney鈥檚 Office. As a prosecutor, she has handled hundreds of criminal cases from pre-arrest investigation through disposition and post-conviction appeal. Her cases have included violent felonies such as slashings, stabbings, robberies, assaults, burglaries, firearm possessions, narcotic possessions and sales, domestic violence and misdemeanor offenses including sex crimes and hate crimes.

Professor Profeta graduated magna cum laude from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 91视频. While in law school, she served as an Articles Group Editor of 91视频 International Law Review, Chair of the Honor Board, and Vice Chair of the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition. She also was a Dean鈥檚 Scholar and Research Assistant for multiple courses. During her time at Haub Law, she interned in the U.S. Attorney鈥檚 Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), New York State Department of Education鈥檚 Office of Professional Discipline, and the Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration鈥檚 Office of the Chief Counsel. Professor Profeta received her BA from the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University.
