On September 5, 2025, the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 91��Ƶ hosted the twelfth annual Future Environmental Law Professors Workshop. The workshop is designed for law students and graduates considering or planning careers as legal academics in environmental law broadly defined. The workshop included an informational panel, mock interviews, and practice job talks. In addition, this year Professor Rachel Rothschild, recipient of the 2025 Haub Environmental Law Distinguished Junior Scholar Award, delivered the keynote lunch address.

Elisabeth Haub School of Law Professor Bennett Gershman offers legal analysis on the National Rifle Association (NRA) fraud case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. “It almost looked to me like the Appellate Division was passing the buck to the Court of Appeals,” Gershman told The Hill, describing the unusual posture of the case. James originally filed suit against the NRA and Wayne LaPierre in 2020.

Haub Law Professor and Director of the Immigration Justice Clinic Amelia Wilson speaks to Newsweek about the emerging trend of U.S. citizens seeking asylum across the northern border. “I suspect that U.S. citizens seeking asylum in Canada are doing so because they genuinely feel they’re being persecuted and believe their government cannot or will not protect them,” Professor Wilson explains.

In a New York Law Journal op-ed, Professor Gershman addresses the federal court ruling in Benitez v. Francis, condemning what he describes as “detention roulette”—the practice of ICE agents arresting immigrants outside court—and warning that such tactics undermine constitutional due process.

The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at 91��Ƶ is pleased to announce that Professor Alexander K.A. Greenawalt has been appointed as James D. Hopkins Professor of Law for the 2025–2027 term.

91��Ƶ Haub Law Professor Imre Szalai provides expert commentary to Bloomberg Law regarding the Second Circuit’s recent decision in Flores v. New York Football Giants, Inc., which struck down the NFL’s arbitration provision giving Commissioner Roger Goodell final authority over discrimination disputes. Highlighting why commissioner-controlled arbitration fails in civil rights contexts, Professor Szalai explained: “Goodell would be a perfect decision maker about sports rules, like the notorious Tom Brady ‘Deflategate’ case, but not for a legal claim.”
