Medical Knowledge (MK)
- Apply a strong foundation in basic sciences, health and disease states including pathogenesis, etiology, epidemiology, and clinical presentation of medical and surgical problems
- Integrate medical and clinical knowledge to synthesize patient encounter data, formulating evidence-based differential diagnoses and comprehensive management plans that prioritize healthcare maintenance and disease prevention
- Determine appropriate settings for care and prioritize clinical interventions, including the necessity for surgical versus non-surgical referrals, with a specific focus on the stabilization and management of acute or emergent cases.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills (ICS)
- Demonstrate effective and respectful communication with patients, families, and interprofessional team members to facilitate patient-centered care and shared decision-making
- Communicate with sensitivity and clarity when discussing difficult topics with patients and families
Patient-Centered Care (PC)
- Elicit focused histories and perform accurate physical examinations, correlating clinical findings with diagnostic and laboratory data to guide clinical decision-making
- Integrate findings from patient encounters with foundational medical knowledge to diagnose and manage common medical and surgical conditions across the lifespan.
- Deliver clear and concise oral case presentations, effectively communicating the patient assessment and proposed management plan to other members of the healthcare team
- Document patient encounters accurately, completely, and in a timely manner to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Perform common clinical procedures and technical skills safely and effectively, prioritizing informed consent and patient comfort while maintaining standard precautions
Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC)
- Communicate effectively with other health care professionals to establish and enhance patient care.
Professionalism and Ethics (PE)
- Demonstrate professional conduct and provide medical care that is respectful, compassionate, and empathetic
- Apply legal and ethical principles to clinical encounters, ensuring the protection of patient rights, autonomy, and confidentiality
Practice-based Learning and Quality Improvement (PBL)
- Retrieve and apply evidence from the medical literature to the care of patients.
- Integrate principles of value-based healthcare to provide high-quality, cost-effective care that balances fiscal responsibility with optimal patient outcomes.
Society and Population Health (SPH)
- Apply concepts of population health to locate and secure community resources to mitigate barriers to healthcare access.
- Incorporate public health principles into the management of both individual patients and broader populations to promote health, wellness, and disease prevention.
