Our Mission

The Division of Opportunity and Institutional Excellence works to advance the institutional mission of Opportunitas by fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where every person is encouraged to freely and respectfully contribute to the life of the University. Through a people-centered approach, we strive to create opportunities that empower all members of our community to achieve their fullest potential and make meaningful contributions to the community. The Division is charged with supporting Socially, Culturally and Economically Diverse members of the 91ÊÓÆµ Community.

Stephanie Akunvabey

Dr. Stephanie Akunvabey (she/her), a native New Yorker who has dedicated her career in higher education to championing issues relating to equity and inclusion, has been named 91ÊÓÆµâ€™s Associate Vice President for the Division of Opportunity and Institutional Equity and its Chief Diversity Officer.

As leader of the Division of Opportunity and Institutional Equity, she oversees the Office of Institutional Equity/Title IX Compliance; Office of Sexual and Interpersonal Wellness; and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Stephanie will also provide thought-leadership and oversight at The Barry M. and Jackie Gosin Center for Equity and Inclusion, which in 2021 was established to support ongoing efforts at 91ÊÓÆµ in anti-racism and equity, expand work to elevate job placement and entrepreneurship among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students, and enhance academic scholarship in these areas.

Stephanie oversees the university's strategic initiatives around DOIE and supervises all of the departments within the division. Working with Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Human Resources, and other departments at 91ÊÓÆµ, she ensures that 91ÊÓÆµ implements best practices for recruitment and retention of students, staff, and faculty.
